The cable car was built in 1971 using a unique support-free technology. It is a fascinating exhibit of engineering solutions in itself and a visual aid for the action of the fundamental laws of physics. In just 2.5 to 3 minutes, passengers travel a distance of 964 meters. The ropeway operates on the pendulum principle: the cabins depart from the bottom and top stations simultaneously and meet in the very center, moving at the exact same speed. The capacity of each cabin is 20 people. Almost every tourist visiting Pyatigorsk and other cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters takes home a photo of the cable car, even if they do not ascend to the top in it. The cable car is located on Pyatigorsk's 'main excursion route' leading to the famous Lake Proval, a must-visit for everyone traveling to this region. Gagarin Boulevard runs beneath the cable car, connecting this resort area with the city's main roads and the locations of the most popular Pyatigorsk health resorts.
