About the Tour: Pyatigorsk is one of Russia's oldest resort towns, nestled on the slopes and at the foot of Mount Mashuk. Generously endowed by nature with a variety of mineral springs, it has become a unique multi-profile spa destination. But Pyatigorsk is not only a wellness retreat—it is also a city with a rich, captivating history. Mikhail Lermontov and Pyatigorsk: While A.S. Pushkin introduced the Caucasus to Russian literature, M.Y. Lermontov became its ultimate bard. During his short life, Lermontov visited Pyatigorsk many times; it was here that he experienced early poetic inspiration, spent years of exile, and tragically met his end. Discover the Proval Lake & Scenic Panoramas: During our tour, we will visit the famous underground Lake Proval. At its entrance, you'll be greeted by a monument to Ostap Bender, the legendary character from Ilf and Petrov's "The Twelve Chairs". Next, we'll head to the "Aeolian Harp" gazebo for sweeping panoramic views of Pyatigorsk and the Caucasus Mountains. We will also explore Mount Goryachaya (Hot Mountain), famous for its historic natural baths, the iconic sculpture of an eagle defeating a snake (the official symbol of Caucasian Mineral Waters), and the 19th-century Diana's Grotto. Our itinerary also includes Lermontov's Grotto, a stroll through the "Tsvetnik" Park, the historic Academic and Lermontov Galleries, monuments to Pushkin and Lermontov, and the historic site of Lermontov's fatal duel on the northwestern slope of Mount Mashuk.
